How long is each session?
For our crisis service the initial meeting often takes up to one and a half hours, from this assessment a plan will be devised between you and your therapist to decide how you will best use the next six sessions as each individual/family’s need is unique. The length of the following sessions will therefore vary accordingly.
With our counselling service, sessions will last for 50-60 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?
This is difficult to gauge prior to the assessment as individuals’ circumstances vary so much. On average, clients attend eight crisis sessions or twelve counselling sessions. Please visit our what we do page for more information.

Are appointments set at fixed weekly intervals?
Not necessarily. At crisis resolution we aim to tailor our service according to your needs. This means that we will endeavour to offer a flexible service for when you need it most, whether you are coming for crisis resolution, advocacy or counselling.

Is the service confidential?
Yes. Everything said during a session is strictly confidential between you and your therapist according to the ethical guidelines of BACP. This will only be broken if it has been discussed and you have given consent or if we are compelled by a court of law or where the information is of such gravity that you are in danger of being at potential harm to yourself or others or in cases of serious fraud or crime. We will endeavour to discuss any such incident before confidentiality is broken.
We can reassure you that if you chose to take up the crisis service as an individual and do not want to involve those around you in your recovery this can be accommodated.

Does crisis resolution have to visit my home?
One of the reasons our service is different is that we offer sessions with our clients in their own homes however we do recognise that there may be times where this may not be appropriate and another venue can be arranged. Please contact us with your concerns.
We also appreciate that there are times during a crisis that you may not want to involve those around you and would prefer for all contact from us to be sensitive and confidential.

What happens at the initial crisis assessment?
The focus of the assessment is on meeting you in your home environment, together with your significant others where appropriate, and building a therapeutic relationship together; explaining and experiencing the process; gathering relevant background information and identifying the events that have led to this crisis.
It is an opportunity for the therapists to assess the best way that they can assist you to formulate coping strategies to alleviate the situation.
It is a chance for you to ask questions and work together to formulate a plan to get you, and those around you, back on track as quickly as possible. It is our experience that most people feel some relief and less anxiety as a result of this initial appointment.
Some clients may not be appropriate for the crisis resolution service and we would endeavour to signpost or involve other suitable agencies at this juncture.
Please visit our what we do page for more information.

What theoretical approach is used?
The crisis resolution team is made up of experienced practitioners drawn from a range of theoretical backgrounds, delivering responsive services in a flexible way.
All our staff receive regular training and supervision to ensure their continual professional development and use up to date research to provide the most effective evidence based practice.
We favour ‘integrative psychotherapy’ because we believe that no one theory fits all and we are able to tailor the right therapeutic intervention to meet your need.
